Causes of Weight Gain

Weight is gained when there is a higher intake of calories than when they are burned through action and bodily functions.

One-third of the population in the United States are classed as obese and it only gets worse with technology and the food that is consumed.  However, other conditions may affect weight gain which may affect your metabolism to break down the digestive system and contributes to weight gain.

Underactive thyroid

An underactive thyroid is when the thyroid gland is not producing enough thyroid hormones which oversee the metabolism. Unreactive thyroid can occur in anyone and any age, however, it is the most frequent in older women. The metabolism tends to slow down considerably when there is a lack of thyroid hormones which leads to weight gain.

Diabetes treatment

Weight gain is a frequent occurrence for people who use insulin to control diabetes. Insulin controls the blood sugar level. People with diabetes tend to eat more to counter low blood sugar, which is known as hypo or hypoglycemia.

Aging

As the body grows older, a common occurrence is the slow loss of muscle mass as the body is not using them as often. Muscle being active calorie burners, the body has more calories to deal with and can lead to weight gain. Being busy is a remedy to this problem to help reduce the loss of muscle to help with calorie burning.

Age also sees the slow down of many other functions that affect how the body deals with things and can lead to various other problems if nothing is done about it. Moving around and exercising also helps to hone concentration and drastically reduce stress to help with a variety of issues that stress brings along with it.

Stress and Depression

Stress and depression play significant factors in mood, emotional, and the physical body. While playing both ends of the spectrum, stress and depression can help people lose weight and gain weight. Stress and depression can have more significant effects on people as when weight is obtained, and it tends to lower the mood even further and to cause even more weight gain later down the road. Dealing with stress and low mood is imperative to living a healthier life.

Tiredness

Tiredness can often lead to modest weight gain in the future as a study showed women to have less than 6 hours to show weight gained after a long period. Getting enough sleep helps to energize the body to help prevent weight gain.

Tiredness also makes for less movement which can, in turn, lead to more weight gain than other causes, as you are burning less calories not moving around then you are walking outside. It is also especially beneficial to move around to prevent blood clots to form that can cause many health concerns down the road.
